Sang Mok Choi is the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance since December 2023. Before assuming this position, he served as the Senior Secretary to the President for Economic Affairs in the Office of the President. Prior to these roles, he was the 1st Vice Minister of the Ministry of Economy and Finance from January 2016 to May 2017 and held multiple influential positions within the Ministry of Economy and Finance. These positions include Director General for Economic Policy, Director General for Policy Coordination, and Director General for Future Vision and Strategy Policy.

He graduated from Seoul National University majoring in Law, and holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Cornell University, U.S.
